Prosmin (Finasteride) (fi-NAS-teer-ide)
What is Prosmin (Finasteride) used for?
Prosmin (Finasteride) is used to treat male pattern hair loss. It decreases a natural hormone in the body, known as DHT, thereby slowing down the loss of hair while also increasing re-growth of hair. This drug is also commonly prescribed to treat a condition known as benign prostatic hyperplasia, in which the prostate becomes enlarged, causing urination problems. It alleviates these symptoms by shrinking the prostate.
How should I use Prosmin (Finasteride)?
Prosmin (Finasteride) comes in the form of a tablet, which should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. The standard dose is one tablet per day. If you are treating an enlarged prostate, it may take up to 6 months before you notice an improvement in your condition. Do not discontinue treatment unless your physician tells you to. For male pattern hair loss, it may take 3 months to a year before the full benefits are noticed. You must continue taking this drug, otherwise you may lose all the hair that has been grown as a result of treatment.
